The City of Houston, Harris County, and area animal welfare groups came together to collaborate and promote the month of February as Spay/Neuter Awareness Month. The highlight of the month was the inaugural celebration of Big Fix Houston free spay/neuter event.
In an effort to keep the momentum going, Council Member Karla Cisneros, First Daughter Ashley Turner, Clear Channel Outdoor, iheart Media and the Houston BARC Foundation have joined forces for a public awareness campaign about the importance of spaying and neutering. Public service messages will be displayed on area Clear Channel billboards and radio messages will be aired on local iheart Media stations throughout the city . Currently, there is a very high estimate of stray animals within the city, which is a quality of life issue for these animals as well as the neighborhoods in which they live.
Donations to the BARC Foundation will be used to help support the city’s BARC Animal Shelter and Adoptions. BARC is committed to promoting responsible pet ownership through spaying/neutering, microchipping, vaccinations, training classes, and health and wellness services.
