On Monday, Oct 28th, the Houston BARC Foundation participated in funding the 2nd BARC Legendary Service Award give to Hugo Parrales, a BARC Shelter Employee, who demonstrated extraordinary service over the past 3 months. Foundation Board Members Sidney Faust, Barbara van Postman, Greg Damianoff and Linda Barrett joined Mayor Annise Parker and Proler Southwest, an award underwriter, in the Proclamation Room of City Hall to present the Award Pin and $1,000 Cash Award to Mr Parrales and his daughter, Sophia. City of Houston BARC Shelter staff overall has shown outstanding dedication and service to animal rescue, care and adoption at BARC in 2013 and continues to improve its outreach to homeless animals in Houston.
The BARC Legendary Service Award was instituted by the City in July 2013 in order to recognize and reward outstanding BARC staff service and dedication to animal care at the shelter. The BARC Foundation underwrites $500 of each award and Proler Southwest, Inc. underwrites an equivalent amount for a total cash award of $1,000, given quarterly.
BARC employees can be nominated by the community at large or by co-workers or other City employees that witness first-hand the exemplary service of a nominee. A panel of judges from BARC reviews all nominations and selects the winner each quarter.
