BARK for BARC Pet Walk

BARK for BARC Pet Walk

Please join us for the 5th Annual BARK for BARC Pet Walk on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at Rice University. This special event brings together animal lovers and their furry family to “strut their stuff” for Houston BARC Foundation, the nonprofit organization supporting BARC, the City of Houston’s Animal Shelter and Adoptions Center.

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, our community’s pet population has been directly impacted. While the dedicated team at BARC has collaborated and stepped up to address the ramifications to pet owners through free pet pantries and wellness events, BARC operations have been affected by an ever-growing stray population, staffing concerns, and frequent updates to shelter safety protocols.

We are grateful for the monetary and in-kind donations we have received through this annual BARK for BARC Pet Walk, totaling more than $300,000 since 2016.  100% of these generous contributions benefit the animals at BARC.  Your contributions have and will enable BARC to provide enhanced play yards, enrichment toys, regular medical treatment, kennel, and sanitary supplies. Your participation will also grant animals vital access to the Wellness Center.

BARC needs and welcomes you:

🐶 BARC cares for 25,000 and 30,000 animals per year.
🐶 In 2021, BARC spayed/neutered over 7,200 animals.
🐶 BARC is the only Houston shelter that will not turn away any animal regardless of shelter capacity, behavior, breed, or medical condition.
🐶 Annually, BARC partners with dozens of animal welfare groups to rescue, transfer, foster, and adopt thousands of animals.
🐶 Through its Healthy Pets Healthy Streets initiative, BARC partners with local providers to provide free spay/neuter services in neighborhoods with large stray animal issues.
🐶 Healthy Pets Healthy Streets also allows BARC to educate the community on the importance of spay/neuter to reduce the pet overpopulation and promote pet wellness.
🐶 BARC’s “Fixin’ Houston Clinic”—the first in Texas—provides low-cost spay/neuter services for Houstonians.

We hope to continue to save lives and find forever homes by engaging more Houstonians in BARC’s mission. Read more about BARC and its many programs.
